Default Looking to grab a screen

just came up on some money to finally do the audio in my G35 right. Basically im looking to get a touch screen with nav for around $1k. I can get a good deal on this one:

    Kenwood DNX9140

I do like the new pioneers though...Any thoughts?

Kenwood = PITA to change settings on in my opinion.

Pioneer is good, but I've yet to find any real advantage of them vs everything else (aka, I haven't quite understood the hype surrounding them)

JVC, Alpine, Clarion and Motevo all have great head units w/ NAV. JVC & Motevo are the easiest to bypass the parking brake on of this group. Alpine usually requires a module to bypass the parking brake, Clarion just requires a momentary switch to switch from ground to open and back to ground again (a relay tied to the hazard light switch can do this easily).

I'm normally a die-hard Clarion fanatic, but I'm starting to move towards JVC and will be featuring them in all 3 of my personal vehicles in 2010, including one of these most likely http://mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?mo...hId=147&page=1

Well, I still think that HANDS DOWN the best sounding/easiest to use dvd player on the market is Clarion....and yes, I've listened to a LOT of them and I think wes would agree with me there. The only thing Clarion is lacking in current models is Fiber optic output and 6 volt pre-outs. If they had that, I'd never even consider anything else.

Fiber optic output... do car stereos even have that these days... Honestly I think it would be easier to just make a car-puter and add a sound card with optical out and have a 7" in dash vga screen

Yes, fiber is standard on JVC DVD units.

I've done the carpc route before, the cool factor is there, but I just don't like it as my source unit.

I had an ALpine w203 and it was by far the easiest to operate, looked nice and priced very reasonable.

NX409 is long gone, however this http://clarion.com/us/en/products/20...394334521.html is it's direct replacement. I'm not even sure anything changed other than the nameplate.

I had the Kenwood DDX7019 in my Scion before I sold it and I loved it! I thought it was one of the easiest radio's to operate. I was selling just the indash for $400, but found out that I won't be putting the Nav in my new car so I will end up selling it all for $600.

So you give me the "here let me google it for you"
    and i get this
    Web definitions for pita
usually small round bread that can open into a pocket for filling
    wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn - Definition in context

So thanks Vdubber10 for telling me its a Pain in the ass... personally i just say POS ... but some people get that confused with point of sales computers... but most of those are POS

Difference is Kenwood is not a POS product, it works fine, it's just a pain in the ass to use.

Oh, and when I click that very LMGTFY link, it gives me these results as well (I figured you knew I wasn't talking about the bread):

    There is one tiny change....
The Clarion NX409 didnt allow an optional HD radio tuner to be added on...
where as the NX500 does let you have it.... :D

If you really have your heart set on a NX409 you can go to crutchfield and pick one up for $499.99
    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020NX40...ssi=0&tp=20212

But I'd take the NX500 instead if you have the option because its only a matter of time before all our fm stations are offered in HD I know plenty of the ones I listen to are in HD already

I am not sure why it is so difficult for you... It's probably one of the easiest interfaces i have installed for people. They always come back adn say how easy/friendly it is compared to similar ones out there. Are you sure it's not just you?

Difficult? no. I owned the Kenwood Chuck is referring to and showed him all the steps you had to go through not only to sort/find a song to even tilting the face. Hell, adjusting the sound was involved. Im comparing the U/I with the multiple Clarion and Alpine units I have owned/used. The one I am referring to is the DDX712. Like chuck said it wasnt a cheap pos unit. Just more difficult to use than other H/U we have used. It is personal preference speaking here based solely on hands on experience. Your opinion may vary.

Yes, this is what I was referring to when I said PITA. Everything seems hidden in the sub-menu's. I'm sure once you get used to it it's not so bad, but comparing it against Clarion, Alpine, Panasonic and JVC it felt "cumbersome" (to me)

I'm a big Alpine fan, used them since day one, never tested their video monitors though, easy to use and install? Do they seem to last a long time compared to other brands?

The Alpine units are decent and not terribly hard to use. They do require a certain module to bypass the video safety lockout feature which are plentiful *PAC TR7*(about $25.00 or so). I am impressed however at what you get for what you pay. They do a good job at the multimedia but not above anyone else.

Thanks for the help! Do most video units require a bypass module like that or does it depend on the make of the unit?
