Default Good time for heating problems. D:

Soo, as much as I hate to admit it, I'm buying a Ford this Friday, and the ONLY thing wrong with it (for now) is the heat. It blows warm enough to defrost but that's about all it can do. Thermostat has been replaced, heater core has been looked at but not replaced.

Just looking for other suggestions as to what else it might be. Heater core is about $20 so I'll probably replace that regardless.

The vehicle is a 1990 Ford Ranger, standard base model. 2.3 Litre with a five speed manual.
    Less cylinders = less fun.

Is the valve stuck on it for the coolant into the heater core?

    Common problem on rangers.

My cars mods are so vast they don't fit within the 500 character rule.

In attempting to research this is a lot of what I'm finding, but he's researching too so I'm sure he'll find that and try that. I just don't want him to pour any more money into it because he's already spent so much. New shocks, redid the rear brake line along with wheel cylinders. And like mentioned before, the thermostat, and a bunch of hoses in the engine bay.

Just take the valve out and splice the line back together, cheap easy check.

That might be what I end up doing temporarily. Either way the valve is only about $20. As is the heater core. (so I might have looked at the wrong thing) Not a big dent in the wallet and worth it for a winter beater at the price I'm getting it at anyway.

    Thanks. :D

If it is a headgasket (which it won't be) just get a Fel Pro 8993 and do a lift-n-tuck. If the head bolts have six point heads, they're OEM and reusable. Twelve point heads are aftermarket torque-to-yield.

    +1

This should be the job of the blend door. Simplify the circuit.

Oh, and whatever you do, absolutely positively DO NOT visit TurboFord or Ranger Power Sports.
